Parentals

Parents. Can't live without them, wouldn't be hear without them.

I can't stand mine most of the time. They just don't get the growing up procedure.

Why do parents always play the victim? As if since they gave us life we owe them everything.

And now my mother says that she holds all these emotions from me? Ya right! Everything comes out in the end. Its ridiculous! Sorry I'm a person with feelings and now that I have grown up I have an apartment, thats right I don't have to stay and take your shit anymore. So good luck with those feelings you want to throw at me.

Something Missing

Sometimes I miss prom

I miss dressing up

I miss getting butterflies

I miss the makeup

I miss the scary high-heeled walk down the stairs

I miss the look in my dad's eyes

I miss the look in my date's eyes

I miss the corny pictures

I miss the fake smiles

I miss the ride to the high school

I miss the feeling of my dress is better than hers

I miss You

Thanksgiving Break

How To: Have An Awesome Thanksgiving Break

Its easy to get in a couch-potato slump when leaving college and going home for break but there are very few chances to get away from Iowa City and you have to use them all. So here are some tips to making your Thanksgiving Break awesome!

1. Sleep! – Everyone knows that at college we have deadlines and cram sessions just about every day. To make room for all that studying something has to give – our sleep. So while at home be sure to have some quality time in bed and rest up for finals week.
2. Call up old friends – Sure technology makes it easy to keep in touch with people from back home and friends going to different schools, but nothing is better than face-to-face interaction.
3. Eat – Holidays is one of the only acceptable times to completely stuff your face and then take a nice long nap after so load up on the turkey and stuffing and worry about getting back in shape at the Rec Center when you get back to school.
4. Family Time – Whether its going shopping with mom or curling up on the couch to watch football with dad, spend some time with the family. Being away from home really takes a toll on your parents and when you get home they want to see you so make some memories.

Thanksgiving break is what you have been waiting for since the start of school, its your first week long getaway of the school year and you need to make every moment count!

It's Gonna Be a Full House!

What did you grow up watching?

IDK bout you but I got Full House shoved down my throat and loved every minute of it!

So now here is my chance to meet Uncle Joey and how can I resist the chance to meet him?!?

CAB is bringing him to the IMU Main Lounge Stage so I can relive some of the best memories of my childhood in real life! Ah!

The magic happens December 2nd at 10pm!

Dave's stand-up has earned him appearances on The Tonight Show, HBO's Detroit Comedy Jam and HBO's Comic Relief at Radio City Music Hall. Dave continues to enjoy sold out performances of his stand up, and performs at many colleges, corporate events, casinos, nightclubs and theaters across the country.

So get your tickets now for Dave Coulier at the IMU Box Office for only $5!

Experience

To get a job today, we need experience.

To get good work that gives you experience, you need to have previous experience!

When does this cycle end? Never

I am so excited about an internship I have gotten and how did I get it? From previous experience!

I once read that what we are doing when procrastinating is what we should do in life. I am currently taking this advice and running with it because I believe in it extremely.

So my advice to anyone and everyone, get experience, start low (start anywhere) and get some work experience because no one is going to trust or want you if you have never gotten your hands dirty, never cried from a deadline, and never thrown your hat in the ring to get something and failed because all of this makes you stronger and if you give up you will never get where you should be going.

Horoscope

Today my horoscope was dead on. It said that before I could move on to my future destinations and happenings, I would have to take a trip down memory lane.

Lately I have been thinking about the past and my relationships and happenings. Can I let them go? This is where I will.

I have been thinking about You so much lately. I let you go because I wanted you to find something better but really I was just scared that I wasn't the best you could find. You were too amazing for me. You were perfect and I was not.

Now you have gone and found someone better for you. You have chosen her and you two will be happy. I wish you nothing but the best but I can't help but be selfish and wish on every 11:11 that you will come back to me and be my best friend again because I have missed you throughout the years. When I hear that song on the radio who am I supposed to text about it?

Its not fair that you got to have me and throw me away when it was convenient for you. Its not fair that just because she gets you means I can't talk to you.

Life's not fair.

I miss you. I love you. I hope for the best for you.

Goodbye

Mind Body and Soul

My mind is still in Maine, in a relationship, in a paradise.

My body is in school, going through the motions, wishing everyday I could do what I want, not what's expected.

My soul is telling me to throw caution to the wind and get out.

Our Parents

This summer I worked at a summer camp for boys that were mostly jewish and come from rich families. The camp was an all sports camp that offered a variety of different activities. It seemed great!

But parents just can't get off their high horse and if they went, one hundred percent there kid was going to go. Why bother ask the child if it was what he wanted to do? It didn't matter. It was time for their son to grow up and become a real boy by running around and playing with other boys his own age.

The only problem with this is that some of the boys were completely out of their element here. One boy I took care of was a reader and writer. He was literally writing his own book... Why send this kid to camp? Because his father saw him as a mama's boy and needed him to grow up. This boy wished every day to go home and cried all the time about home sickness. He was not ready to be pushed into this camp.

Parents need to step back and ask themselves if they are doing the right thing. I believe that little boy is going to be scarred for life from his summer at camp. He is going to grow up resenting his parents for sending him there. There are so many different camps in the world, so why push him to do this one? So that he grows up to be an all american? Just from looking at him, I'm sorry, but that was never going to happen.

Good Luck Kid

Summer Time 2011

This summer was amazing but for totally different reasons than I thought. It really is true that you find "love" in the most unexpected places.

Camp Cedar was nothing what I thought it would be. I get to Maine (on time THANK GOD) and have no clue who anyone is. Not too many returners which was a bummer. I didn't get to be head of golf so I was doing everything behind the scenes (again)! so annoying.

But one returner stuck out. And I fell hard for the guy. The only problem = He is from Wales! What?! I hate hour long distance relationships so how can I ever do an overseas relationship? He is the sweetest guy! Not the biggest, tallest, or most muscular but makes me feel so good and gets me all the same.

I miss him already and it hasn't even been a week. What am I going to do??

Now I am back at Iowa and ready to get started with classes and work and CAB and Homecoming because it will keep my mind busy.

Wednesday, April 27, 2011

I have been learning so much about relationships and media and finally getting to understand.

We become to rapped up in TV shows that in my normal conversation I begin to get the two confused (not literally) but my friends and I talk about the characters like they are real, here with us.

Glee is so addicting and drama filled. Grey's Anatomy is my relationship center with hook ups and break ups. And Parenthood helps me see why my parents did some pretty weird stuff and acted how they did when I messed up. It's good practice for the future (I hope).

Sometimes I think I substitute many of my relationships for my TV ones. Its just easier than getting up and trying! College has made me lazy on my downtime but I have a new motto: You can sleep when you die.

And I am going to hold to this because I need to live a little instead of letting my days pass me by. Relationships and Networking are everything! Right?

Jersey Shore Party 2011

Cabs are here!!!!
It's T-Shirt Time!!!
GTL and MVP

These are just a few of my favorite Jersey Shore moments. Why is this show so addicting! Every week I tune in and laugh at the unbelievable crazy tanned and hair-sprayed characters.

Now CAB is holding its very own Jersey Shore at the IMU! You go dressed as your favorite character from the show because there is a look-a-like contest!!! Great Prizes for winner I'm sure... maybe some free tanning sessions?? HAHA! How cute would it be if a couple came as the Jenny/Ronnie couple (too bad they are broken up, maybe the fake couple will have better luck)

There will be a crazy DJ dropping some awesome fist-pumping beats that you can mosh to because there it is gonna be a highlighter party!!! AHHHHH!!

And everyone loves free stuff so at the part you can make some sweet shutter shades (Oh Yeah) and your very own T-shirt (Oh Yeah) They do work at a T-shirt store and Spring is right around the corner so you can show off your sweet digs.

To get you in the real Spring/Summer mood there is going to be a smoothie bar!!!! And free food of course (did you even have to ask?)

So stop by and win big for a study break at the IMU at 10pm because things are going to get craaazzzyyyyy. :)

Cash Cab's Ben Bailey

Who's ever ridden in a cab?
Who's ever gotten kicked out of a cab?
Who's ever gotten kicked out of a cab for not answering questions correctly?

That's what I thought. Me either however Ben Bailey has never had a problem kicking people out on his TV show, Cash Cab. I love watching people win and lose hundreds of dollars. Makes me smile. (Is that wrong?)

And now the amazing campus activities board is bringing the crazy handsome Ben Bailey here! To the University of Iowa! (The IMU to be exact.) On Friday February 18 I will be front row center for his comedy show laughing so hard I probably cry.

And how much is this night going to cost me? Nothing of course but this show will be priceless so get there earlier than 10pm for a great seat. I can even bring all my friends (non UI students too) and they will worship me :) Once again... priceless!

Why should you go? Even if you don't know who he is... he is famous and how often do you get to meet a famous person? And for free! Not that often you ask me.

Want a bit of a preview? Check out his stand up: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_WT6tB6U_uc

Speed Dating

OMG I don't think anyone realizes how deep my love for CAB goes! And now CAB is trying help me find a new love at SPEED DATING. A chance to find a valentine in time for Valentine's Day would be perfect. I know there is a guy out there looking for me, and me for him :) Not only are their "dating" tables to find your love, but there are "friendship" tables because I need a few more facebook friends (I'm on the short side).

What goes better with finding a guy than chocolate. Chocolate fountains are my favorite because you can dip and even just fill up a cup of chocolate. (It's better than it sounds.)

But even if I don't find my true love... I AM GOING TO MAKE A CUDDLY SOFT STUFFED ANIMAL! I know that little guy will be there to cuddle and love me every day and night :D

Did I mention this was all free?? Yes because that is how awesome CAB is (hehe). So come see me on Friday at 10pm at the IMU 2nd floor ballroom (especially if you are a guy) and we can have a chat, and maybe get a bite at the chocolate fountain (especially if you are a guy) :D

Can't wait to see you there! (especially if you are a guy)

Post Break

Don't get me wrong, I love xmas break and such, but there is nothing better than returning to my dorm room and next year my apartment! :) Unpacking and putting everything in its rightful place is awesome. NOt to mention having control over my own life again is a great feeling.

I cannot wait to get back to CAB and the amazing events. Start working on homecoming events. And possibly adding more organizations to my list. Not to mention dance marathon right around the corner.

I love being home but there is nothing like coming HOME. There is no one in my hometown anymore worth seeing so I try to move on.
