Our Parents

This summer I worked at a summer camp for boys that were mostly jewish and come from rich families. The camp was an all sports camp that offered a variety of different activities. It seemed great!

But parents just can't get off their high horse and if they went, one hundred percent there kid was going to go. Why bother ask the child if it was what he wanted to do? It didn't matter. It was time for their son to grow up and become a real boy by running around and playing with other boys his own age.

The only problem with this is that some of the boys were completely out of their element here. One boy I took care of was a reader and writer. He was literally writing his own book... Why send this kid to camp? Because his father saw him as a mama's boy and needed him to grow up. This boy wished every day to go home and cried all the time about home sickness. He was not ready to be pushed into this camp.

Parents need to step back and ask themselves if they are doing the right thing. I believe that little boy is going to be scarred for life from his summer at camp. He is going to grow up resenting his parents for sending him there. There are so many different camps in the world, so why push him to do this one? So that he grows up to be an all american? Just from looking at him, I'm sorry, but that was never going to happen.

Good Luck Kid

Summer Time 2011

This summer was amazing but for totally different reasons than I thought. It really is true that you find "love" in the most unexpected places.

Camp Cedar was nothing what I thought it would be. I get to Maine (on time THANK GOD) and have no clue who anyone is. Not too many returners which was a bummer. I didn't get to be head of golf so I was doing everything behind the scenes (again)! so annoying.

But one returner stuck out. And I fell hard for the guy. The only problem = He is from Wales! What?! I hate hour long distance relationships so how can I ever do an overseas relationship? He is the sweetest guy! Not the biggest, tallest, or most muscular but makes me feel so good and gets me all the same.

I miss him already and it hasn't even been a week. What am I going to do??

Now I am back at Iowa and ready to get started with classes and work and CAB and Homecoming because it will keep my mind busy.

I have been learning so much about relationships and media and finally getting to understand.

We become to rapped up in TV shows that in my normal conversation I begin to get the two confused (not literally) but my friends and I talk about the characters like they are real, here with us.

Glee is so addicting and drama filled. Grey's Anatomy is my relationship center with hook ups and break ups. And Parenthood helps me see why my parents did some pretty weird stuff and acted how they did when I messed up. It's good practice for the future (I hope).

Sometimes I think I substitute many of my relationships for my TV ones. Its just easier than getting up and trying! College has made me lazy on my downtime but I have a new motto: You can sleep when you die.

And I am going to hold to this because I need to live a little instead of letting my days pass me by. Relationships and Networking are everything! Right?
